LESSON LEARNED: If you change the commissioners, you change the result. To wit: Taxes on casinos in the state’s three gaming towns will rise 5 percent on July 1, thanks to a unanimous decision by the Colorado Limited Gaming Control Commission on Thursday, according to Ed Sealover of The Denver Business Journal. “The 4-0 vote reverses the commission’s decision one year ago to cut taxes by 5 percent after the state’s casino industry had struggled through three consecutive unprofitable years. Angered by that vote, Gov. John Hickenlooper replaced all five members of the commission with the new board, which increased taxes Thursday.”
