GOP’s Ellen Roberts Faces Primary Challenge in SD-6

It was supposed to be a race between two Durango-area heavyweights: an incumbent state senator in Democrat Bruce Whitehead, and a rising star in Republican state Rep. Ellen Roberts, The Durango Herald reports.

But now, a little-known conservative Republican from Norwood is gaining surprising traction in his bid to upset Roberts in the GOP primary for the Colorado 6th Senate District.

Dean Boehler, a construction company owner and former deputy sheriff, made a strong showing at last weekend’s GOP assembly in Ridgway. Boehler, 56, nearly doubled Roberts’ delegate count, and Roberts barely made the primary ballot.
