The Legislature might allow “tasteful” advertising temporarily on the state Capitol to help pay for an expensive renovation of the dome, The Durango Herald reports. The golden dome is one of the iconic buildings in the West, but its iron is rusting and needs repairs that could cost $15 million or more. Colorado Preservation Inc. brought the fundraising idea to legislators Thursday. Preservationists are steering away from even using the word “advertising” in connection with the project. Instead, they call it “cause-related marketing.”
