HB10-1274: Student Protection Bill Spurred by Attack on Montrose Girl

The Montrose County School District is pushing for legislation to mandate that schools be notified when potentially dangerous students will enroll, the Montrose Daily Press reports. Local interest in HB 1274 is high, since a boy under social services care slashed the throat of a girl as she entered Montrose High School in 2008. HB 1274, introduced Feb. 5, requires the state Department of Human Services to notify schools before enrollment by students in state care who are identified as presenting a risk to the community or themselves.
