Vocal objections from Republicans and swing votes from a few Democrats on Wednesday weren’t enough to stop a bill that would cost Pueblo’s steel mill an estimated $2 million in taxes, The Pueblo Chieftain reports. In anticipation that the bill could clear its final hurdle in the Legislature, possibly this week, managers at Evraz Rocky Mountain Steel already are eyeing a possible lawsuit to challenge its legality under the Colorado Constitution. Senators voted 18-16 to pass HB1190, which for two years would suspend manufacturers’ tax exemption for energy use. Sen. Mike Kopp, R-Littleton, abstained from voting over a conflict of interest.
